"The Voice's" extra episode may have trounced the first hour of "The X Factor's" Season 2 premiere in Wednesday night's reality ratings war, but Simon Cowell and his new sidekick Britney Spears are still hitting the promotional circuit hard in hopes of building buzz for their show. And among these entertaining efforts was their post-premiere appearance on Wednesday's "Jimmy Kimmel" episode, during which Simon and Britney showed off their surprisingly strong chemistry. However, if Simon really wants to help "The X Factor's" cause, he may not want to alienate potential viewers by showing off his...thick thatch of chest hair. Come on, no one wants to see that.

"Simon, we can see your navel. Why even have buttons on your shirt, if this is how you're going to wear it?" an amused/repulsed Jimmy asked Simon on behalf of all of America--when Simon strutted onstage practically flashing more skin than Britney usually does, with his shirt flapping open to the waist. "Please button that shirt, it's disgusting! I feel like an ape is about to jump out and strangle me!"

Britney didn't seem to appreciate Cowell's hairy-chested look either, since when Jimmy asked Simon if there was any "sexual attraction" between this odd couple, Britney just averted her eyes nervously while Simon fiddled with his one fastened button and answered, "It's a bit one-sided, Jimmy. Myside." Oh well. Maybe Britney could at least provide Simon with a referral to a good waxer.

Fear not: When Simon made multiple changes to "The X Factor's" format this year, swapping too-tight black T-shirts for barely-buttoned button-downs was really one of the more minor tweaks. Despite Wednesday's aforementioned ratings setback, the early buzz regarding "The X Factor's" new (and improved) season has been largely positive, with many fans and critics saying the series has totally stepped it up since last year, and some even saying it's now better than "The Voice." Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, the General Overseer of Redeemed Christian Church of God is the most respected Pentecostal pastor in Nigeria. This former teacher and lecturer in mathematics from the University of Lagos was among the first set of academia in Nigeria to become disciples of the then ‘church ratist’ Pentecostalism. Then from the early seventies to the early nineties to be a Pentecostal is akin to being an outcast.

Such was the fate of Pentecostals till Pastor Anwuzia of Zoe Ministries made Pentecostalism fashionable.

Pastor Adeboye was among the people who gradually led the migration from extremist Pentecostalism to moderatism. This was coupled with various testimonies of creative miracles like healing of blindness, lameness and other incurable health condition under the power of God which used to be hallmarks of his conventions then.

The emergence of Archbishop Benson Idahosa, Pastor Joe Anwuzia and Prophet Gabriel Oduyemi birthed the introduction of prosperity into the Pentecostal fold. Pastor Adeboye believes in prosperity, preaches prosperity, healing, salvation and spiritual maturity.

He runs a loose administrative structure which gives his pastors the freedom to exhibit their peculiar spiritual gifts of prophecy, healings, teachings, worship or a combination if the person has the grace.

The Redeemed pastors are not perpetually in fear of frequent transfers like their Living Faith counterparts. In terms of pastoral allowances, Redeemed pastors receive more pay than other structured Pentecostal churches perhaps except Living Faith Church.

During our time, pastors are sent to a field with a horn speaker, mat, stove, huge Bible and Matthew Henry’s Commentary and a member to house the new work in his apartment.

The pastor were to use his ‘God of Elijah’ anointing to bring down the rest of the chairs, instruments, place of worship, members etc or you die of hunger and starvation.

The Redeemed Church will have none of it. They equip every branch with minimum requirements including migrated membership to enable the new branch start up with less friction.

In terms of sermon delivery, the Redeemed style is simple and devoid of logical sequence and revelational wordcraft  associated with Living Faith Church. Bible students are not excited about their message pattern , they view it as too simplistic .

Messages in Redeemed Church is delivered with high level of simplicity, devoid of intellectual flair that one begins to wonder what a professor is doing in that environment.

However, the cohesive family like relationship in their fold beats that of any Pentecostal fold in Nigeria and have held the church together like a rock.

In terms of organization, the church is second only to Living Faith. In terms of worship, it towers above other Pentecostal church. In terms of hierarchical structure, it has the most disciplined hierarchical order.

A district pastor with 100 members in his parish takes precedence over a parish pastor with 5000 Congregationalists such that  the parish pastor must surrender pulpit at the presence of the district or any other senior pastor. This is just to ensure discipline and order. They have low turnover of pastors as you will see those who started with Pastor Adeboye still in the fold.

The daily devotional ‘Open Heavens” is the most incisive daily devotional in circulation. It showcases the teaching ministry of Pastor Adeboye .The Redeemed Camp has a sitting capacity of over four million members and during conventions and Holy Ghost Congress the visitors could reach six million. The membership of RCCG can only do their leader and the nation good if they elect to find their ways into politics, civil society groups, human rights and other change movements in Nigeria so that they can help in the rescue of this nation out of imbecile political leadership.

There is enough power of God angling around the ministry that ubiquitous faithful prefer to collect it, store it, hoard it until it becomes stale and they rush to Redeemed camp to collect another one.

This cycle is a disservice to the nation. With a membership above eight million, the Redeemed members should rise up from slumber and use the spiritual resources at their disposal to checkmate evil in the armed forces, economy, politics , business and other sectors of the ailing nation.

The National Youth Service Corps has established a Distress Call Centre for the security of corps members nationwide.

Ekiti State NYSC Coordinator, Mr. Baba Ahmed, of the scheme disclosed this on Thursday during the swearing-in of the 2012 Batch ‘A’ corps members at Ise-Emure-Orun.

According to him, the centre was set up in collaboration with security agencies in the country, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.

“Data on all corps members will be stored at the centre and a call from any corps member in distress, from any part of the country, will receive immediate attention of security men in such domain,” he explained.
Ahmed, however, advised the corps members to cultivate the habit of being security conscious at all times.

“You should be cautious of people and objects in your environment,” he added, and advised them to also pay attention to the security tips they would be taught in camp and to read their handbooks properly.

CANCER

Cancer is a class of diseases characterized by out of control cell growth. There over hundred differ types of cancer, and each s classified by the types of cells that is initially affected. Judging by the fact that the transcript of D’banj interview with SaharaReporters TV is still one of the most-read stories on this platform even one week after it happened, this continues to be a hot button topic for thousands of young Nigerians – as it should be.

No one – no matter how many bodyguards he has or how many hit albums to his credit – should be above being interrogated by his or her compatriots over the state of the common enterprise called Nigeria.
Now, there are those who have reacted with visceral, even uncommon, anger over what they refer to as Dbanj’s insensitivity and a seeming discontent with the Nigerian reality. And there is the visibly minority view, which insists that D’banj is only an entertainer and should be left alone.

Yes, it is a bit of a stretch to criticise D’banj for not joining the rallies in Lagos or London, or to insist that he must oppose the fuel subsidy removal policy. It is after all his fundamental right as a citizen to hold an opinion, even if – perhaps especially when – it is not the popular one.

But that is hardly the point. What D’banj did was essentially tell his interviewer that he had no concern on the subjects of poverty, fuel subsidy removal and the way the affairs of the country are managed – and in the most dismissive sense.

This is wrong for many reasons.

For one, the artiste has referred to himself as a youth ambassador. Of course, as people try to position themselves and their careers, titles like this are strategic to that advancement. However, they must also be ready for the responsibility that comes with that priviledge.
Even more to the point, there is an ironic contraction to D’banj’s latest stance that severely undermines his personal credibility. The singer has always been in his legal and moral rights to produce a song for any politician for a fee – as a business person, this is proper practice. However, in D’banj’s case, he has insisted that this was an endorsement based on belief and not a commercial venture.

This is where it gets tricky. How do you endorse a man out of concern for your nation a year ago and then suddenly be too busy to care about the most important matter concerning your nation, and brought about by that man, a year after?

For those who insist that D’banj is an entertainer and thus should not be burdened with these issues, that is the crux of the matter. He put himself out there.

Perhaps more disappointing than this lack of consistency, is the transparent arrogance in a young man whose success is created by the public, disdainful of the issues on the top of that public’s mind. It is impractical to expect Dban’j to have a Seun Kuti-like grasp of the complexities of cost of governance and fuel subsidy removal, but it is by no means out of order to expect him to show an awareness and sensitivity to those issues, at whatever level he understands them.

It is important for the famous and the influential to understand that patriotism and concern for one’s country is intrinsically linked to the entire concept of citizenship – active or not. You cannot be arrogantly disinterested in your country and still hope to profit from its progress.

D’banj is a talented young man with a superior grasp of his business and his musical brand. If anything, this is apparent from the sold out concert in New York immediately following the disastrous interview. But we certainly hope this is not an attitude he intends to keep up, just because the concert crowds are large, the music awards continue to stream in and the bank account is deservedly fat.

If that is in fact the case, then he would be sorely mistaken. There are many examples of high-wattage celebrity that eventually find themselves done in by a misguided sense of their own immortality.
The day eventually comes that they find themselves on stage and there are no cheering crowds. Then, it will dawn on them. But by then it will be too late.

According to BBC, Malawi’s President Bingu wa Mutharika has told foreign donors to “go to hell”, accusing them of plotting with local groups to topple his government.
Mr Mutharika said he was “tired of being insulted” and urged his followers to prevent any protests against him.
Civil society said there are no planned protests – and condemned the president for inciting his supporters.
The UK and other donors cut aid to Malawi in 2010, criticising its economic policies.
Last July, at least 19 people were shot dead by police during anti-government protests over the worsening economy.
‘No more nonsense’
Mr Mutharika said he has intelligence reports that some Western donor nations were working with local non-governmental groups (NGOs) to hold street demonstrations and vigils against his rule.
“I will not accept this nonsense any more,” Mr Mutharika said as he opened a road in his home tea-growing district of Thyolo in southern Malawi.

“If donors say this is not democracy, to hell with you… yes, I’m using that word, tell them to go to hell,” he said on Sunday.

He urged youth cadets of his ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) to “do everything possible to rise up and make sure the demonstrations are thwarted”.
Malawi’s NGO umbrella group, the Council for Non-Governmental Organisations (CONGOMA), says the president has the “wrong intelligence”, and no demonstrations are being planned.
“The president should be tired of the problems on the ground, not his critics,” CONGOMA chairperson Voice Mhone said in a statement.
“Unless he exerts all his energy and resources in finding solutions the criticism will not stop,” he said.
The BBC’s Raphael Tenthani in Blantyre says Mr Mutharika has had several run-ins with foreign donors – with the most high-profile row ending in the expulsion last year of the UK’s high commissioner after a leaked diplomatic cable quoted him as describing the president as autocratic and intolerant.
He won a resounding second term in office in presidential elections in May 2009 – but has since faced criticism over his handling of the economy and his apparently growing intolerance of anyone who criticises him.
Malawi is one of the poorest countries in the world, with an estimated 75% of the population living on less than $1 (60p) a day.
The country has suffered shortages of fuel and foreign exchange since aid flows stopped two years ago.

MONDAY Oluwafemi John, one of the pioneer members of Chief Commander Ebenezer Obey’s band, Inter-reformers band  is dead. He died at the General Hospital, Ikeja, Lagos after a  brief illness.

He died twenty four hours before a proposed meeting with his former boss, Evangelist Ebenezer Obey who is soon to celebrate his 70the birthday. Monday John was expected to join the Inter Reformer band of Evangelist Obey on the eve of his birthday.

The Juju musician who until his death was based in London, according to a family source, suffered a massive stroke last Wednesday and could not recover. He had been coming on and off some illnesses in recent years until his condition got more complicated.

The news of his death was confirmed by his eldest son, New York based Oluwafemi John ( Jnr)

Monday was a musical powerhouse as one of the band members of Chief Commander Ebenezer Obey. His activities as a versatile guitarist earned him love and admiration across the world. He was a pioneer member and a moving force in Ebenezer Obey’s legendary Juju band, Inter- Reformers band.

His musical talent and production arrangement ability was appreciated by millions of Juju lovers across the world. He handled the guitar with flare that helped in producing some of the classic records from Ebenezer Obay’s stable.

His death is coming just as committee of friends announced last Thursday, that they would be celebrating Commander Obey as he clocks 70 years of age.

Google is celebrating Leap Day with a homepage doodle in honor of Gioachino Rossini, an Italian composer born today in 1792.

The doodle is inspired by one of Rossini's more famous operas, The Barber of Seville. For those familiar with it, IBN noted  that the barber frog is Figaro while his customer is Count Almaviva.

Rossini was not the first person to take on The Barber of Seville, though, which was based on a play by Pierre Beaumarchais. Giovanni Paisiello had already crafted a successful version of the opera, and fans were miffed when they heard that Rossini was doing his own version. They even "choreographed a disturbance at the premiere," NPR said , but Rossini's version quickly became the more popular opera.

Rossini came from a musical family; his father was a trumpeteer and his mother a singer. The composer tried his hand at singing, but was forced to give it up after his voice broke, according to his Encyclopedia Britannicabiography . He turned to opera, and specifically, the opera buffa, or comic opera. His first opera buffa debuted in 1810 and over the next decade, he gained fame and fortune throughout Europe. He eventually retired to Paris, where he "gave superb gourmet dinners attended by many of the greats of the musical and literary world of the mid-19th century."

He died in November 1868 near Paris.

Rossini's birthday, meanwhile, is celebrated on Feb. 29, also known as Leap Day. As About.com explained , Leap years have 366 days because calendar years are actually 365.242 days long, not 365. "Basically, leap years occur every 4 years, and years that are evenly divisible by 4 (2004, for example) have 366 days," the site said.

In conjunction with today's doodle, the Google doodle team produced a video (below) that provides some insight into their creative process. Ideas for doodles come from the team itself, as well as other Googlers and average users, for example. The video also highlights the Doodle 4 Google contest, which calls on students to create a doodle and compete for a chance to have it highlighted on Google.com. This year's contestkicked off last month.

In 2011, it was revealed that Google obtained a patent for its popular homepage doodles, covering "systems and methods for enticing users to access a Web site."
